My Two Boy-Friends

My Two Boy-Friends

Don’t take me wrong. These two are just my friends of my opposite sex. That's the reason I mostly address them as my boy-friend. Be Careful I didn’t mean boyfriend, I meant boy-friend. Obviously people always take it wrong when I say. For me, I call my friends of my own sex as girl-friend and that of opposite sex as boy-friend. Yes I am not marooned a century ago, but it was how I thought the terms till I was 14 years. Just to keep the fun of this story let's take the terms as I thought years ago.

It all started when I got a promotion from L.P to M.E i.e. promoted from class five to six. A new school and new friends. Our seats were arranged such that the boy's bench-girl’s bench. I was made to sit in the fourth bench to  the middle right corner. Before-after and right of my bench ,there were boys. I just remembered that two boys who sat just before our bench and in the middle of their bench were sort of interested in me. Obviously I was then a new student with a little high score in comparison to there. I remember that they were funny and friendly and also a great liar. One of them whom I call Adam latter ,was a fair skin coloured boy with an American-Indian look, light brown coloured eyes, with a bright smile. Another one is Neel with a bridge coloured skin and thick curly black hair and was as tall as me. I asked them “who was the topper and what’s its percentage” because they looked very kind in my annual report card. One of them, that was Neel, just without looking in my eyes said “A boy, he is absent today. He got 94.” I replied peeping to their bench “Really only 94. I too got that percentage but I am not the topper of my class.”. Adam told “yes” and passed my report card to other benches, out of my reach. Obviously they lied about the topper because a girl with whom I sat spoke in my ears. It was such that the person who told me ie Neel was actually the topper with 98%. For a moment,I really thought myself supreme when Neel told me the topper was 94.  With bright eyes they started to ask stuff related to my previous school and my friends. I think they knew that I was a little nerd then. In the conversion I even told them who they resemble the most from my ex-friends. I told Neel he resembled one of my most intimate friends. I guess till then they don’t even know about whom I was actually taking. But it happened that they took my conversation a bit seriously . It was an amazing conversation. I talked about my hobbies, tricks and many many things. Now I am really surprised that they really paid attention  to all my nonsense I spoke to them then.
I was new so I hardly had some friends. I was talking to one of my girl-friends( I hope readers you know what I mean) in leisure. Suddenly from nowhere I heard a boyish sound “Catch it”. High up in the air, a small tiny white box flew which was about to collapse into my face. I was then a Tom-boy so I just avoided the collision by just leaning backward. I saw the box got hit by the wall and fell down. I turn around to see who threw this to me. It was Adam. He shouted “that was for you”. I gave a questioning face to him. “It was chocolate for you.”. “For me why?” I said in surprise. “Just” he gave a brilliant smile to me and left the room. I was running insane because of his act. I searched below the benches and got the chocolate. It was a rectangular coffee tasted chocolate raped in white normal paper. I showed the chocolate to my friend. She said “ He has given the same chocolate to Anie. She is his childhood friend.”. “But I am not” I interupted her and gave her the chocolate . I really didn't understand why he gave it to me. Obviously Anie is his childhood friend but I am just a new-friend to him. It was just a strange act of him for me. Even he invited me to his birthday party. Speaking truly I did not attend his party because I thought it would be too much with a stranger. Yes obviously he was a stranger because I hardly knew anything about him then.
Another strange event with him was on “SLAP DAY”. It was then  when he was no more a stranger for me I was very chillingly standing in the first row, talking  with my friends . The entrance door of our class was straight in front of me. Students were coming in and going out. We were celebrating slap day very politely and softly. And then I got a very hard slap from someone that almost made me lose my balance. I looked around and it was him, Adam. Wow his hand must be made of iron. Obviously puberty can make a boy's hand strong as iron. And I bet he doesn’t know how strong he must have become. My face turned red. I chased him to take revenge, but in the meanwhile the bell rang and he vanished. I will never forget that slap I swear Adam.
I even had a much  strange experience with Neel then Adam. Whenever Neel tries to talk to me in a crowded place, I can never hear his voice clearly. His voice was rather low for a boy of his age. Even my voice was louder than his. I have told him many times that “I can never hear your voice make it louder”. He just gives a shy-anger look at me and goes away. I literally have that issue of not hearing low voices but his was too low. But I wonder why he just came to me to talk.  He knew I could never hear his low voice but still he wanted to talk to me.
When our school ends every afternoon, he would ask me about the world of Pokemon. I was a huge fan of Pokemon when I was young. I never expected a topper like him to be interested in such unnecessary things. But he was much better in Pokemon. Before he asks me , he does his homework on Pokemon better than me. Most of the time I remain dumped in front of him. Unable to answer him I always suggest him to ask the master pokemon of our class. I literally feel bad not being able to join his conversation and excitement.
It was the same year of the Slap Day, when I for the first time got an unexpected gift from a friend. Adam went to Chennai. His Friends  demanded him to bring shell-keychains. He brought many shell-keychains which contained the first letter of his friend's name. I was then the class captain. So to avoid the crowd in and around his bench I took the duty of delivering the keychains to the respected owners. One after another he took them out and handed me, telling me whom to give. At last when he gave me a single keychain with an alphabet ‘R’ on it. I looked and asked him “Now whom?”.
“It's for you,” he said gently. “What” gave him a surprise look such that I saw a ghost. “Why ,I didn’t ask you to bring it for me?”. He laughed and said “I brought for everyone.” “I don’t think so”. “Almost for everyone.” he said as if I caught his lie. His friends were laughing at the conversation between us. I just remember I stood there not believing myself that the keychain is for me. One of his friends shouted and said “he brought it for you especially because he has some special feelings for you. Will you not accept it”. His shout brought my mind back and turned to Adam “Thank You for the gift.” and left his bench. Girls were much more excited to see my keychain  than theirs. One of the girls said “This key-chain is slightly different than ours. It is  dark brown-golden colour”. I just stood blank. Another girl who seems to not receive any gift from him said “It's because he had” grabbing the chain and turning to me “dark feelings for you.”. “What?” I said in disgust and took the keychain from her. I guess this was something I can't figure out what actually happened.
I might not have reacted the way I should have in those situations. But no matter what you two are one of the most insane-boy-friends I ever got in my life. Now our destinations, thoughts and lifestyle may have become different but, whatever you two did for me as a friend consciously or not, I am thankful. Without you-two, half of my life'S fun and happiness would have vanished already. Thanks for these lovely and sweet memories Adam and Neel.
